How do I use Appraise-It Pro's autosave feature?
Appraise-It Pro's autosave feature is designed to protect your reports in the case of catastrophic loss, such as power or hardware failures. At a set interval, Appraise-It will store a separate copy of your open report if changes have been made without manually saving.
While it's still recommended to manually save your work at regular intervals, the autosave feature provides an extra safety net.
Autosave Settings
To change the default settings, take the following steps:
1. In Appraise-It, go to File ⇨ Settings ⇨ Autosave.
2. If desired, change the Autosave interval.
- The default setting is 5 minutes between autosaves.
- On older systems, the autosave interval can be increased to improve system performance.
3. If desired, change the Number of autosaved reports.
- The default setting is 1000 autosaved reports.
4. If desired, uncheck Enable Autosave to turn off the autosave feature.
5. Click OK.
Appraise-It will now use your specified settings.
Opening Autosaved Reports
Autosaved report files are stored in My Documents\My Appraise-It\Autosave.
To find an autosaved report, take the following steps:
1. Browse to the Autosave folder.
- In Windows XP, go to Start ⇨ My Documents ⇨ My Appraise-It ⇨ Autosave.
- In Windows Vista or 7, go to Start ⇨ Documents ⇨ My Appraise-It ⇨ Autosave.
- In Windows 8, go to the Start screen and type “documents”, then hit “Enter”. In the Documents window, go to My Appraise-It ⇨ Autosave.
- In Windows 10, click on the Windows icon on your tool bar ⇨ click the Documents icon on the left hand side of the start menu (the icon looks like a page)
- ⇨ My Appraise-It ⇨ Autosave.
2. You will see a list of autosaved report files.
- Autosaved report file names are formed by combining three components, separated by underscores: the word "Autosave"; the name of the skeleton used to create the report, or the most recent name you gave the report file; and a unique alphanumeric identifier.
- Sorting by file attributes such as Name or Date modified can make finding the correct file easier. If you are not already in Detail View, right-click in an empty area and go to View ⇨ Details, then click the column headers to sort by each attribute.
3. Double-click on any autosave file to open it in Appraise-It.
- If you open the wrong file, simply close it and try a different file.
4. To save the report, go to the Home tab ⇨ Save As ⇨ Save As Report.
Your autosaved report file is now saved as a regular report file.
