Avast antivirus software may incorrectly flag Scanlink or the Automatic Updater as threats and quarantine them, resulting in an error stating "The file requested could not be located or executed."
To resolve this, restore the files from Avast's Virus Chest.
1. At the bottom right corner of your screen, click the arrow to open your Windows system tray, then right-click on the yellow Avast icon and select Properties.
2. Click Scan, then click Quarantine (Virus Chest).
3. In the list of files, find Scanlink.exe and/or Sfrep.Updates.exe.
4. Right-click on the file and select Restore and add to exclusions, then click Yes.
5. Click Overwrite to restore the file to its original location.
You should now be able to re-open Appraise-It and access Scanlink or the Automatic Updater normally.
