Large files in Appraise-it PRO
Appraise-it PRO already compresses the images you print in your report, but you can change these settings at any time if you need the report to be smaller.
1. Open the Save PDF screen, by going to the Home tab, and clicking 'Save PDF'
2. On the right side of the prompt, Mark the Compress Images checkbox
3. Use the arrows to pick the JPEG Quality- the higher the number, the higher quality.
Large files in Appraise-it Classic
Large report files are usually caused by large image files within the report. We recommend resizing your images to 800x600, depending on the number of images in your report, the level of detail needed, etc.
By default, Photograph-It Plus and Image Manager will automatically shrink oversized pictures. If you are using Photograph-It Plus or Image Manager and your reports are unusually large, it is possible this setting has been changed or removed.
Confirm PDF-XChange's Compression Setting
If you are printing PDFs and they are being rejected due to their size, take the following steps.
1. In Appraise-It, go to Edit ⇨ Preferences.
2. Click PDF under Printing.
3. Ensure Compress images within report is checked.
If the option was checked, continue to the next section. If it was not checked, try printing your PDF again. If its size has not improved, continue to the next section.
Confirm Photograph-It Plus's Auto-Resize Settings
1. Open Photograph-It Plus.
2. Go into the software settings.
3. Go to the Pictures tab and locate the Image Qualities section in the upper left.
4. Ensure Auto Reduce Image Resolution is checked, Default Resolution Compression Values is set to 800x600, Photo Quality is set to 90, and Picture Format Delay is set to 0. Confirm your settings and click OK.
When you use Photograph-It Plus to transfer an image into Appraise-It, the image will be resized to the dimensions specified in the Default Resolution Compression Values setting.
Using A Lower Quality Setting In ScanLink
If you only have a few large pictures, or you don't wish to use Photograph-It Plus, Image Manager, or a third-party image resizing tool, you can adjust the image quality setting in Appraise-It.
1. Open the addendum containing the large image.
2. Double-click on the image to open Scanlink.
3. Adjust the JPEG Compression Level slider down. The default setting is 80.
Please note: The lower the setting, the smaller the image file will be and the lower the quality/legibility of the image. Once an image's quality has been lowered, it cannot be increased -- if an image's quality is too low, you will need to re-load the original image to restore it to its original quality, then adjust the setting again.
Using A Third-Party Image Resizer
There are any number of image editors (such as Adobe Photoshop or Corel PaintShop) for sale in your local store or online. There are also some free image resizing tools available online, and we outline below how to use two of them.
Please note: SFREP does not support any non-SFREP product, and the following information is provided without any express or implied warranty or support of the described products.
An independent software developer has created a free image resizing utility which works on Windows XP, Vista, 7, and 8. This is a clone of the Microsoft original, which only worked in Windows XP. If you are running Windows XP and would rather install the original than the independent clone, you can download it here (all other instructions remain the same).
1. Download and install the Image Resizer Powertoy Clone.
2. In Appraise-It, open the report which contains pictures that are too large.
3. Leaving Appraise-It and the report open, browse to your TRAPRIV folder (the default location is C:\TRAPRIV).
4. Select the image(s) you wish to resize. Typically, you would want to include subject photos, comp photos, listing photos, and general photos. This may be easier if you change your View setting to Thumbnail, or Details and sort by Dimensions. Other image files in the TRAPRIV folder may include icons or logos used throughout the report, or maps and other scanned pages; these should not be resized.
5. Right-click on (one of) the selected image(s) and select Resize Pictures.
6. The Resize Pictures dialog will appear. Enter "800 x 600" in the Custom size option. Check Replace the originals.
7. Click OK. You will see a progress bar while the utility works to resize your pictures. If you are in Details view in Windows, you will see the file size drop for each file as it works.
8. When the process is complete, go back into Appraise-It and save the report to store the newly-resized images.
For future reports, we recommend setting your camera to a lower quality setting or resizing your pictures before loading them into Appraise-It.
